Immunoglobulin lambda constant 7 (IGLC7) is the constant region of the human immunoglobulin lambda light chain, one of several isotypes of the lambda class present in antibodies[1][2][3][5][7]. It encodes the constant portion of the light chain, which partners with a heavy chain to form a complete immunoglobulin molecule. IGLC7 does not itself bind antigen; rather, its variable region (encoded elsewhere) and pairing with a variable heavy chain domain together form the antigen binding site. Immunoglobulins, including those using the IGLC7 constant domain, are produced by B lymphocytes and play a central role in the humoral immune response by specifically recognizing and binding foreign antigens. Pathologically, monoclonal overexpression of lambda light chains—including those encoded by IGLC7—can be a feature of B cell lymphoproliferative disorders, such as certain lymphomas or multiple myeloma. The detection of excessive lambda (vs kappa) usage or of light chain isotypes is used diagnostically in tissue samples or serum[3]. IGLC7 is not considered a direct therapeutic target (e.g., not a receptor or enzyme), but is relevant in immunology and hematopathology.
