Immunoglobulin lambda joining 1 (IGLJ1) is a gene segment that encodes the joining (J) region of the variable domain of immunoglobulin lambda light chains, which are components of antibodies. During B cell development, this gene segment recombines with variable (V) and constant (C) regions to generate diverse antibodies capable of recognizing a wide range of antigens. IGLJ1's main role is to participate in creating the antigen-binding site diversity necessary for effective humoral immunity; it is not itself a drug target, enzyme, receptor, or signaling molecule but rather a genomic building block of immunoglobulin (antibody) molecules. IGLJ1 is located within the immunoglobulin lambda locus on chromosome 22.
