Overview

Immunoglobulin lambda joining 2 (IGLJ2) is a gene segment within the immunoglobulin lambda locus on chromosome 22 that encodes one of the multiple joining (J) segments contributing to the diversity of immunoglobulin lambda light chains in B cells[1][3][7]. During B cell development, the IGLJ2 gene segment can be recombined with a variable (V) segment to form the variable region of the lambda light chain, one of the two main immunoglobulin light chain types[1][6]. This V-J recombination is a crucial step in the process that generates the vast diversity required for effective antigen recognition by antibodies[2]. IGLJ2 is not a protein-coding gene in the typical sense but is a functional joining gene segment essential for the assembly of antibody light chains[7]. It is not considered a therapeutic target itself, as it does not form a receptor, enzyme, or classical drug target, but is instead integral to the genetic mechanisms underlying antibody diversity in the adaptive immune system[3][6][7].
