Overview

Immunoglobulin lambda joining 4 (IGLJ4) is one of several "joining" gene segments within the immunoglobulin lambda light chain locus on chromosome 22 in humans. During B-cell development, this short DNA segment contributes to constructing the antigen-binding site of lambda light chain immunoglobulins by joining with a variable (V) and constant (C) segment as part of the V(D)J recombination process. This process is essential for creating the diversity of antibodies needed for adaptive immunity. IGLJ4 is not translated into a protein by itself and has no direct biological activity independently; its function is only structural at the DNA level as part of the immunoglobulin gene assembly process[2][4][6]. Overall, IGLJ4 is a DNA segment critical for immunoglobulin gene diversity but is not a molecular target for therapeutics, diagnostics, or drugs, and is not a protein or receptor.
