Overview

Immunoglobulin lambda joining 6 (IGLJ6) is a joining (J) gene segment within the immunoglobulin lambda light chain locus on human chromosome 22. J segments such as IGLJ6 are required for VJ recombination, the process that assembles variable (V), joining (J), and constant (C) gene segments to generate the diverse antigen-binding sites of the immunoglobulin lambda light chain. The IGLJ6 segment provides the J region of certain lambda light chains used in antibody assembly. There is no evidence that IGLJ6 corresponds to a direct therapeutic target or druggable receptor; rather, it is a germline sequence involved in immune repertoire development through somatic recombination in B cells. Note: - IGLJ6 is often annotated as an open reading frame (ORF) and may not even be functionally utilized in all individuals. - The IGLJ6 gene segment should not be confused with immunoglobulin lambda constant (IGLC6), lambda variable (IGLV6-57), or any receptor protein; its role is limited to immunoglobulin gene recombination as part of antibody genetic diversity.
