Immunoglobulin lambda joining 7 (IGLJ7) is one of several J (joining) gene segments in the immunoglobulin lambda light chain gene locus on chromosome 22q11.22[1][3]. Like other J segments, IGLJ7 is involved in the V(J) recombination process that occurs during B cell development, allowing the creation of antibody light chains with diverse antigen specificities[1][2]. Each functional immunoglobulin lambda light chain gene is generated by recombination of one variable (V), one joining (J), and one constant (C) segment. The J segments provide critical coding sequence that links the rearranged V segment to the constant region. IGLJ7 itself does not encode a protein nor does it function as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter; rather, it is a recombination element essential for antibody gene diversity and adaptive immunity[1][2].
