Immunoglobulin lambda like polypeptide 3, pseudogene (IGLL3P)

Target
IGLL3P
Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene; does not encode a functional protein)
01

Overview

Immunoglobulin lambda like polypeptide 3, pseudogene (IGLL3P), is a non-functional pseudogene located in the human immunoglobulin lambda locus on chromosome 22[5][1]. Pseudogenes like IGLL3P are defective copies of protein-coding genes that have lost their protein-coding potential, typically as a result of gene duplication or retrotransposition followed by disrupting mutations[4][6]. While a minority of pseudogenes show regulatory activity or are transcribed, IGLL3P is not currently established as functionally relevant and does not encode a known polypeptide. It is primarily used as a reference in genomic and evolutionary studies of the immunoglobulin lambda light chain loci, but it is not considered a functional receptor, enzyme, transporter, or classic drug target[1][5][3].

Mechanism of action

03

Biological functions

Some pseudogenes have regulatory functions such as acting as decoys for microRNAs, modulating parental gene expression, or generating siRNAs or lncRNAs, but there is no strong evidence for IGLL3P-specific biological functionMost immunoglobulin lambda pseudogenes, including IGLL3P, are considered *non-functional remnants* of gene duplication events with no direct protein product or canonical immune function

Disease associations

Other (No known direct role in disease; pseudogenes can occasionally serve as regulatory elements or be co-opted in pathological processes, though no specific data for IGLL3P)
