Immunoglobulin lambda variable (IV)-66-1 is a pseudogene found in the human immunoglobulin lambda locus (IGL) on chromosome 22 (22q11.2). Unlike functional variable region genes, IGLV(IV)-66-1 does not produce a functional immunoglobulin light chain and is categorized among several IGLV pseudogenes (members of "clan IV"). Pseudogenes such as IGLV(IV)-66-1 have arisen from gene duplication and mutation events during the evolution of the immune gene loci. While functional immunoglobulin lambda variable genes are involved in generating antibody diversity, IGLV(IV)-66-1 does not encode a functional protein and has no direct role in immune function or disease beyond possible evolutionary genomic rearrangement.
