Immunoglobulin lambda variable 2-33 (IGLV2-33)

Target
IGLV2-33
Molecular classification
Immunoglobulin variable region gene, Immunoglobulin light chain family, Pseudogene or non-functional immunoglobulin subfamily ("other")
01

Overview

Immunoglobulin lambda variable 2-33 encodes a probable non-functional open reading frame for the variable region of the lambda light chain of immunoglobulins. Immunoglobulins (antibodies) normally have variable domains in both their heavy and light chains that together form antigen binding sites, essential to the adaptive immune response. IGLV2-33 is predicted to be non-functional due to alterations at the genetic or transcript level, such as altered recombination (V(D)J rearrangement), splicing site mutations, or conserved amino acid changes, and consequently does not contribute to productive immunoglobulin chain synthesis. The immunoglobulin lambda variable family consists of a large number of functional genes as well as non-functional (pseudogene) segments; these are critical in generating antibody diversity via genetic recombination, but only the functional segments produce active antigen-binding chains. IGLV2-33, being non-functional, does not participate in antigen recognition, signaling, or effector functions typical to immunoglobulins. No disease association, drug interaction, biomarker status, or safety concerns are attached to this gene or its product.
