Immunoglobulin lambda variable 3-1 is a gene encoding the variable domain of the lambda light chain of human antibodies (immunoglobulins), which are glycoproteins produced by B lymphocytes. The product of IGLV3-1 participates in the formation of the immunoglobulin antigen-binding site through somatic recombination (V-(D)-J rearrangement) and affinity maturation. In the immune response, membrane-bound immunoglobulins act as B cell receptors that, upon binding a specific antigen, induce clonal expansion and differentiation into plasma cells that secrete the immunoglobulin. The variable light chain region encoded by IGLV3-1 contributes to the specificity and diversity of antibody responses[1][5][11][12][14].
