Immunoglobulin lambda variable 3-21 (IGLV3-21) encodes the variable region of the lambda light chain in immunoglobulins, which are key components of antibodies produced by B lymphocytes[1][2][3]. The variable domain (V region) is responsible for antigen binding and is generated through a process of V-(D)-J recombination, allowing a high diversity of antigen recognition[1][3][4]. This gene is part of the immunoglobulin lambda (λ) light chain locus located on chromosome 22[2][4]. IGLV3-21, like other variable gene segments, contributes structural and functional diversity to the antibody molecule but does not function as a conventional therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter as typically considered in pharmacology[1][3]. It is, however, essential for the adaptive immune response and antibody specificity. While immunoglobulin genes can be indirectly involved in diseases such as cancer or immune disorders due to abnormalities in B cell development, IGLV3-21 itself is not targeted by drugs nor used directly as a biomarker or safety indicator[3][4].
