Immunoglobulin lambda variable 3-31 (IGLV3-31) is classified as a pseudogene in humans, representing a segment of the immunoglobulin lambda light chain variable region that is incapable of encoding a functional protein due to accumulated mutations or truncations[2][6]. Immunoglobulin variable regions generally contribute to antigen recognition and diversity in antibody molecules, but pseudogenes like IGLV3-31 do not produce active immunoglobulin chain components. As such, it does not function as a receptor or conventional therapeutic target, nor is it involved directly in immune response or associated disease mechanisms. Its main role is as part of the genomic architecture contributing to immunoglobulin gene evolution and diversification, but it is not used diagnostically or therapeutically[2][5][6].
