Immunoglobulin lambda variable 5-48 pseudogene (IGLV5-48) is a member of the immunoglobulin lambda variable (IGLV) gene family located in the immunoglobulin lambda locus. As a pseudogene, IGLV5-48 represents a non-functional open reading frame that does not encode a functional variable region of an immunoglobulin light chain. It likely became non-functional due to alterations in its coding sequence or recombination/splicing signals. While the broader IGLV family is essential for antigen recognition by antibodies (immunoglobulins) during immune responses, pseudogenes like IGLV5-48 do not participate in immunoglobulin synthesis, V(D)J recombination, or immune effector functions[4][5][7].
