Immunoglobulin lambda variable 5-52 is a gene encoding a segment of the variable region of the lambda light chain of human immunoglobulins. The protein product forms part of the variable domain responsible for antigen binding in the antibody structure, contributing to immune diversity through V-(D)-J rearrangement and somatic hypermutation. Like other variable immunoglobulin domains, IGLV5-52 is involved in the recognition and binding of specific antigens, initiating immune responses when incorporated into functional antibodies. The gene is located on chromosome 22q11.2 and participates in the generation of the enormous diversity of the human antibody repertoire.
