Immunoglobulin lambda variable 8-61 (IGLV8-61)

Immunoglobulin lambda variable 8-61 is a protein coding gene encoding the variable region of the lambda light chain segment of immunoglobulins (“antibodies”). This segment is involved in the antigen-binding site, pairing with the variable domain of the heavy chain in the immunoglobulin molecule. During B lymphocyte development, V-(D)-J recombination and subsequent somatic hypermutation produce diversity, enabling this region to bind a vast array of antigens. The protein is part of the immunoglobulin complex and contributes to the recognition phase of humoral immunity, initiating antigen-specific immune responses.
