Overview

The immunological targets of PCV13 and SIIV are a collection of antigens derived from Streptococcus pneumoniae and Influenza viruses, rather than a single human therapeutic target. PCV13 (13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine) targets the capsular polysaccharides of 13 pneumococcal serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F), which are essential for the bacteria's virulence and evasion of the host immune system (Source: PubMed, PMID: 22198515). SIIV (seasonal inactivated influenza vaccine) targets the surface glycoproteins of influenza A and B viruses, specifically hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), which facilitate viral attachment and release (Source: WHO, Influenza Vaccines). These antigens are used in combination to elicit a broad protective immune response, including the production of high-affinity antibodies and the establishment of immunological memory. Mechanism of action

These vaccines work by inducing active immunity through the presentation of pathogen-specific antigens. PCV13 contains capsular polysaccharides from 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae conjugated to the CRM197 carrier protein, which triggers a T-cell dependent immune response and opsonophagocytic antibody production (Source: FDA, Prevnar 13 Package Insert). SIIV contains inactivated influenza virus components, primarily hemagglutinin (HA), which induces neutralizing antibodies that prevent viral entry into host cells (Source: CDC, Vaccine Effectiveness).
