The immunological targets of PCV13 and SIIV are a collection of antigens derived from Streptococcus pneumoniae and Influenza viruses, rather than a single human therapeutic target. These antigens are used in combination to elicit a broad protective immune response, including the production of high-affinity antibodies and the establishment of immunological memory. Because this term refers to a set of vaccine antigens from multiple pathogens, it does not represent a single molecular entity or a standard pharmacological receptor.
These vaccines work by inducing active immunity through the presentation of pathogen-specific antigens. PCV13 contains capsular polysaccharides from 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae conjugated to the CRM197 carrier protein, which triggers a T-cell dependent immune response and opsonophagocytic antibody production (Source: FDA, Prevnar 13 Package Insert).
