Immunoproteasome subunit beta type-1 (LMP2)

Target
LMP2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Proteasome subunit
01

Overview

Immunoproteasome subunit beta type-1 (LMP2) is a catalytic subunit of the immunoproteasome, encoded by the PSMB9 gene. It replaces the constitutive proteasomal β1 subunit and plays a key role in generating peptides with hydrophobic C termini suitable for MHC class I presentation, thereby enabling CD8+ T cell responses. Beyond antigen processing, it influences inflammation, cytokine secretion, and T cell differentiation. It is induced by interferon-gamma and pro-inflammatory cytokines. LMP2 inhibition is explored as a therapeutic strategy in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
