Immunoproteasome subunit beta type-8 (LMP7)

Target
LMP7
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Protease, Proteasome subunit
01

Overview

Immunoproteasome subunit beta type-8 (LMP7) is a catalytic subunit of the immunoproteasome, a specialized form of the proteasome complex. It plays a central role in protein degradation, antigen processing for MHC class I presentation, and regulation of immune responses. LMP7 exhibits chymotrypsin-like activity and is upregulated by interferon-gamma (IFNγ). Selective inhibitors targeting LMP7 are being explored therapeutically in autoimmune diseases. Deficiency/mutations are linked with autoinflammatory syndromes.
