Overview

Immunosuppressive activity refers to a biological property or process that reduces or inhibits immune system function. This effect can be caused by specific drugs, regulatory cell types (such as regulatory T cells, B cells, and myeloid-derived suppressor cells), tumor-derived factors, or pathogens. Immunosuppressive mechanisms include inhibition of cytokine production, suppression of immune cell proliferation, induction of immune cell death (via death receptor pathways), modulation of antigen presentation, and promotion of immune cell regulatory subsets.
