Importin Subunit Beta 1

Molecular classification
Karyopherin, Transport Receptor
01

Overview

Importin subunit beta-1 (KPNB1) is a key protein in the nuclear import pathway. It mediates the transport of proteins from the cytoplasm into the nucleus through nuclear pore complexes (NPCs). It forms a heterodimer with importin alpha to recognize cargo proteins containing nuclear localization signals (NLS) and docks this complex at the cytoplasmic side of NPCs. KPNB1 is overexpressed in some cancers, making it a potential therapeutic target. Inhibition disrupts proteostasis and triggers apoptosis.
