Overview

Inactive phospholipase C-like protein 1 (PLCL1) is a member of the phospholipase C family that, unlike other family members, lacks catalytic phospholipase activity due to changes in its active site. It is involved in inositol phospholipid-based intracellular signaling cascades and acts as a regulatory protein rather than an enzyme. PLCL1 is implicated in the regulation of GABA A receptor endocytosis, contributing to synaptic inhibition in the nervous system, and functions as an inhibitor of protein phosphatase 1 catalytic subunit (PPP1C). In immune contexts, PLCL1 participates in inflammation regulation, particularly through the modulation of NLRP3 inflammasome activity in rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast-like synoviocytes. Aberrant expression of PLCL1 has been linked to cancer progression, especially in lung carcinoma.
