Overview

Inducible T-cell Co-stimulator (ICOS), also known as CD278, is a co-stimulatory receptor expressed primarily on activated T cells. It belongs to the CD28/CTLA-4 superfamily and plays a crucial role in T-cell activation, proliferation, cytokine production, and survival. ICOS interacts with its ligand, ICOS-L (B7RP-1), which is expressed on antigen-presenting cells and B cells. This interaction is essential for T-dependent humoral immunity, Tfh cell differentiation, and the regulation of immune responses. ICOS is implicated in various diseases, including Common Variable Immunodeficiency type 1 (CVID1), autoimmunity, and cancer, making it a potential therapeutic target.
