Induction of broadly neutralizing antibody response

Overview

The *induction of broadly neutralizing antibody response* refers to the process whereby vaccines or natural infection stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies that can neutralize a wide range of viral strains by binding to conserved regions of viral proteins[3][1][5]. This outcome is highly sought in HIV, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2 vaccine research because it offers protection against diverse and rapidly mutating viruses; however, successfully inducing bnAbs through vaccination is technically challenging, often requiring prolonged antigen exposure or carefully engineered immunogens[2][5][7]. Broadly neutralizing antibodies themselves are rare, exhibit high levels of somatic hypermutation, and their development may take months to years following infection[5][7]. While bnAbs are promising therapeutic agents and research tools, the process of their induction does not correspond to a classical drug target or receptor entity.
