Induction of Regulatory T Cell Formation

Molecular classification
Cellular Process, Immune Regulation
01

Overview

The induction of regulatory T cell (Treg) formation refers to the biological processes and molecular pathways that drive the differentiation of naïve CD4+ T cells into regulatory T cells. These specialized immune cells play a critical role in maintaining immune tolerance, preventing autoimmunity, and modulating immune responses. Key factors include Foxp3, IL-2, and TGF-β. Induction can occur in the thymus (tTreg) or periphery (pTreg/iTreg), influenced by antigen receptor signaling, co-stimulatory molecules, and cytokines. Resultant Tregs suppress immune responses through various mechanisms, including cytokine secretion and contact-dependent inhibition.
