Overview
Infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) is the causative agent of infectious bursal disease (IBD), also known as Gumboro disease, a highly contagious and economically significant viral infection primarily affecting young chickens. The virus targets the immune system, specifically the bursa of Fabricius, leading to immunosuppression and increased susceptibility to secondary infections. IBDV is a non-enveloped, double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) virus with an icosahedral capsid. Its genome consists of two segments encoding structural and nonstructural proteins essential for replication, assembly, immune evasion, and pathogenicity.
