Overview

Inflammatory cell activation" refers broadly to the process by which immune cells—such as macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells, T cells, B cells, and eosinophils—are activated in response to harmful stimuli like pathogens or tissue injury. This process involves recognition of danger signals via pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), leading to the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines that recruit additional immune cells. Activated inflammatory cells play key roles in pathogen clearance and tissue repair but can also cause collateral tissue damage if dysregulated. While this term describes a critical step in the inflammatory response pathway—including cytokine signaling and leukocyte recruitment—it does not refer to a single molecular entity or druggable target; rather it encompasses multiple cellular events within innate and adaptive immunity
