The hemagglutinin (HA) protein from the Newcastle/1/2021 strain of Influenza A (H3N2) is a surface glycoprotein essential for viral entry into host cells. It mediates viral attachment to sialic acid receptors and subsequent membrane fusion. As a major antigenic determinant, HA is a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and a key component of influenza vaccines. The Newcastle/1/2021 strain's HA sequence has been used in mRNA vaccine development to elicit protective immune responses against circulating H3N2 variants.
