Influenza A hemagglutinin protein (H3)

Molecular classification
Viral surface glycoprotein, Hemagglutinin
01

Overview

Influenza A hemagglutinin (HA) is a trimeric glycoprotein on the surface of influenza viruses, including the H3 subtype. It mediates viral entry by binding to sialic acid receptors on host cells and facilitating fusion of the viral and cellular membranes. HA is a major target for neutralizing antibodies and is a key component of influenza vaccines. Its high variability necessitates frequent vaccine updates.
