Influenza A Polymerase Basic Protein 2 (PB2)

Target
PB2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase subunit
01

Overview

Influenza A polymerase basic protein 2 (PB2) is a subunit of the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase complex. It is essential for viral transcription and replication. PB2 recognizes and binds to the 5' cap structures of host pre-mRNAs, initiating viral mRNA synthesis through a process called "cap-snatching". Residue K627 is a key determinant of host range and pathogenicity. Some variants can localize to mitochondria and interact with MAVS, potentially modulating immune responses.
