Influenza A Virus Hemagglutinin Antigen (H1) (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Viral surface glycoprotein, Hemagglutinin
01

Overview

The hemagglutinin (HA) antigen of Influenza A virus, specifically the H1 subtype, is a surface glycoprotein essential for viral entry into host cells. It binds sialic acid-containing receptors on the host cell surface, facilitating viral attachment and entry. After endocytosis and exposure to low pH, conformational changes in the protein mediate fusion between the viral envelope and endosomal membrane. Variations in H1 influence host specificity and virulence. It contains major antigenic sites recognized by neutralizing antibodies.
