Influenza A virus Hemagglutinin protein subtype H7

Molecular classification
Viral envelope glycoprotein, Receptor
01

Overview

The hemagglutinin (HA) protein is a major surface glycoprotein of the influenza A virus, responsible for binding to host cell receptors and mediating viral entry. The H7 subtype refers to one of the 18 known HA subtypes in influenza A viruses. The H7 hemagglutinin is particularly relevant due to its association with avian influenza outbreaks and occasional zoonotic transmission to humans. It binds sialic acid-containing receptors on host cells and undergoes conformational changes to trigger membrane fusion.
