The hemagglutinin (HA) protein of Influenza B virus, specifically from the Victoria lineage, is a major surface glycoprotein and a critical antigenic determinant. It plays essential roles in viral entry into host cells and is the primary target for neutralizing antibodies. The Victoria lineage is one of two main evolutionary branches of Influenza B viruses. HA is a trimeric glycoprotein responsible for receptor binding to sialic acids on host cells and mediating membrane fusion. Due to antigenic differences between Victoria and Yamagata lineages, effective vaccines must contain representatives from both. HA deletion variants and other mutations can impact immune escape and vaccine effectiveness.
