01

Overview

Influenza virus is a highly contagious respiratory pathogen that infects the nose, throat, and lungs. It is classified into four main types: A, B, C, and D. Types A and B are responsible for seasonal epidemics in humans. The virus's surface glycoproteins, hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), are crucial for host cell entry and virion release, respectively. Transmission occurs through respiratory droplets. Prevention relies on annual vaccination and hygiene measures. Antiviral drugs like oseltamivir can reduce symptom severity if administered early.
