Influenza virus is a highly contagious respiratory pathogen that infects the nose, throat, and lungs. It is classified into four main types: A, B, C, and D. The virus's surface glycoproteins, hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), are crucial for host cell entry and virion release, respectively. Transmission occurs through respiratory droplets.
