Target intelligence / Profile preview

Influenza B virus antigen

Molecular classification
Viral protein, Hemagglutinin (HA), Neuraminidase (NA), Envelope protein
01

Overview

Influenza B virus antigens, primarily hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), are viral proteins recognized by the immune system. They mediate viral entry and release and are the main targets for neutralizing antibodies and antiviral drugs. HA is subject to antigenic drift, leading to the emergence of new strains and the need for annual vaccination. NA is the target for neuraminidase inhibitors. Other envelope proteins like NB/BM2 also play roles.

02

Mechanism of action

Neuraminidase inhibitors block the activity of neuraminidase, preventing the release of new virions from infected cells.
