The hemagglutinin (HA) protein of the Influenza B virus is a major surface glycoprotein essential for viral entry into host cells. It mediates both the binding of the virus to host cell receptors and the subsequent fusion of viral and cellular membranes, enabling infection. HA exists as a homotrimer, with each monomer containing a globular head domain for receptor binding and a stem domain for membrane fusion.
