Influenza Matrix Protein 1 (M1)

Target
M1
Molecular classification
Viral structural protein, Matrix protein
01

Overview

Influenza matrix protein 1 (M1) is the most abundant structural protein in influenza A virions. It forms a continuous layer beneath the viral lipid envelope, acting as an endoskeleton that is essential for multiple stages of the virus life cycle, including assembly, budding, disassembly during entry into new host cells, and regulation of viral ribonucleoprotein (vRNP) trafficking.

Mechanism of action

Disruption of M1 function leads to impaired viral assembly and budding.
