Influenza Polymerase Basic Protein 2 (PB2)

Target
PB2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase subunit, Transcription factor
01

Overview

Influenza polymerase basic protein 2 (PB2) is a subunit of the heterotrimeric RNA-dependent RNA polymerase complex (FluPol) essential for influenza virus replication and transcription. It binds to the 5' cap structure of host pre-mRNAs, enabling "cap-snatching" to prime viral mRNA synthesis. The residue at position 627 is a critical determinant for host range and pathogenicity. PB2 also plays a role in modulating the host immune response by targeting mitochondria.
