Overview

Conserved antigens of the influenza virus are viral protein regions that remain relatively unchanged across different influenza strains and subtypes. These antigens are distinct from highly variable surface proteins like the hemagglutinin (HA) globular head, which frequently mutate to evade immune detection. Targeting conserved antigens is a promising strategy for developing universal vaccines and broad-spectrum therapeutics against diverse influenza viruses. Key conserved antigens include Nucleoprotein (NP), Matrix Protein 1 (M1), Matrix Protein 2 Ectodomain (M2e), Hemagglutinin Stalk Domain (HA2), and Polymerase proteins (PB1/PB2).
