Influenza virus neuraminidase antigen (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Viral surface glycoprotein, Enzyme, Exosialidase
01

Overview

The influenza virus neuraminidase (NA) is a major surface glycoprotein found on the envelope of influenza viruses. It plays a critical role in the viral life cycle, particularly in the release of newly formed virions from infected host cells and in preventing aggregation of virions by removing sialic acid residues from glycoproteins. NA acts as an exosialidase (EC 3.2.1.18), cleaving α-ketosidic linkages between terminal sialic acid residues and adjacent sugars on glycoproteins or glycolipids. Neuraminidase inhibitors such as oseltamivir, zanamivir, and peramivir are clinically used antivirals that block NA activity.
