Influenza virus RNA polymerase

Molecular classification
Enzyme, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase
01

Overview

The influenza virus RNA polymerase is a heterotrimeric, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase complex essential for the transcription and replication of the viral genome. It is composed of three subunits: PB1, PB2, and PA (or P3 in influenza C/D). PB1 is the catalytic subunit, PB2 binds to host mRNA caps, and PA/P3 possesses endonuclease activity. The polymerase is crucial for viral mRNA synthesis and genome replication, making it a central target for antiviral drug development.
