Overview

INHBA antisense RNA 1 (INHBA-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the INHBA gene region. It is primarily nuclear and is proposed to regulate gene expression at the transcriptional level, possibly by modulating the expression of its sense counterpart INHBA as well as functioning via interaction with microRNAs such as miR-141-3p[2][1]. INHBA-AS1 is reported to enhance the proliferation, migration, and extracellular matrix deposition of fibroblasts and various cancer cells[1][3]. Elevated INHBA-AS1 levels are observed in several human cancers, including gastric and colorectal cancer, as well as in hypertrophic scar tissues, and its knockdown restricts pathological cell functions, indicating its potential role as a therapeutic target[1][3]. It has also been explored as a circulating biomarker for cancer diagnosis[3]. As a non-protein-coding RNA, it does not fit classic therapeutic target categories like receptor or enzyme, but is recognized as a functional regulator and emerging target in disease contexts[1][3]. No approved drugs currently target INHBA-AS1 directly.
