Inhibitor of growth protein 1 (ING1) is a nuclear tumor suppressor protein encoded by the ING1 gene, which regulates diverse cellular processes including cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, senescence, and DNA repair through pathways involving both p53-dependent and p53-independent mechanisms[1][2][3]. ING1 acts as a chromatin-associated transcription factor and epigenetic regulator, interacting with histone deacetylase complexes and binding to methylated histones[1][4][5]. Deficiency or downregulation of ING1 is observed in many cancers, and its physiological roles span inhibition of cell growth, promotion of apoptosis, and suppression of tumorigenesis, particularly in lymphoid and epithelial tissues[2][3][5]. ING1 modulates DNA damage responses and interacts with a range of partners including p53, PCNA, HDAC1, and pro-apoptotic BCL2 family members[1][4]. ING1 is a member of the broader ING family, with several alternatively spliced isoforms documented.
