INKA2 antisense RNA 1 (INKA2-AS1)

Target
INKA2-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

INKA2 antisense RNA 1 (INKA2-AS1) is a long non-coding antisense RNA transcribed from the locus opposite the INKA2 gene on chromosome 1. Long non-coding antisense RNAs generally regulate gene expression by mechanisms including transcriptional interference, chromatin remodeling, or acting as molecular sponges for miRNAs. While INKA2-AS1’s specific functional role is not well characterized, antisense lncRNAs can affect stability, translation, or splicing of overlapping coding genes. There is currently no evidence supporting its use as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease-associated molecule, but research on antisense RNAs in general suggests potential regulatory functions in transcription and gene expression.

Biological functions

Potential regulation of gene expression at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level, as by other antisense lncRNAsMay modulate stability, splicing, or translation of target mRNAs in cis or trans (general for antisense lncRNAs, specific function for INKA2-AS1 is not detailed in current literature)
03

Disease associations

Other (there is currently no direct evidence linking INKA2-AS1 to specific diseases, but general functions of antisense lncRNAs can be relevant in cancer, imprinting disorders, and other biological processes)
