Innate immune cell activation describes the process by which innate immune cells—including macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells, natural killer cells, and others—become activated upon recognition of pathogens or tissue damage[1][4][6]. This occurs primarily via pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that detect pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) or damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs)[1][4].
