Overview

IMMP1LP2, or inner mitochondrial membrane peptidase subunit 1 pseudogene 2, is a noncoding genomic sequence classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are defective copies of functional genes that have accumulated mutations (such as frameshifts, stop codons, or lack of necessary regulatory elements), losing their protein-coding capacity and, typically, their original function. While some pseudogenes have been implicated in gene regulation, particularly as miRNA decoys or through other noncoding RNA-based mechanisms, there is currently no evidence that IMMP1LP2 itself has a demonstrable impact on human physiology, pathology, or drug response. As such, it is not categorized as a therapeutic target or biomarker in biomedical research or clinical use.

03

Biological functions

Pseudogenes can have potential regulatory activities, such as: Acting as microRNA decoys or "competitive endogenous RNAs" (ceRNAs), thereby influencing gene expression indirectly.Modulating the mRNA stability or regulation of related coding genes, but such roles are context-dependent and vary with the pseudogene. For IMMP1LP2 specifically, no characterized biological function has been described in the literature or gene databases.Other
04

Disease associations

Pseudogenes in general can be involved indirectly in disease by modulating gene regulatory networks. There are no disease associations or pathogenic roles reported for IMMP1LP2 specifically.Other
