Overview

Inosine Monophosphate Dehydrogenase Type I (IMPDH1) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) to xanthosine 5'-monophosphate (XMP), the first committed step in de novo guanine nucleotide synthesis. It exists as a homotetramer and plays a crucial role in DNA and RNA synthesis, signal transduction, energy transfer, and cell growth regulation. Defects in IMPDH1 are associated with retinitis pigmentosa type 10 (RP10). Inhibitors like mycophenolic acid and VX-497 are explored for immunosuppression and antiviral therapies.
