IMPDH2 is a rate-limiting enzyme in the de novo synthesis of guanine nucleotides, catalyzing the conversion of inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) to xanthosine 5'-monophosphate (XMP). It plays a significant role in cell proliferation and is upregulated in some neoplasms, contributing to chemoresistance and radioresistance. Therefore, IMPDH2 is considered a potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment.
