The functional IMPA1 gene encodes a magnesium-dependent phosphatase involved in the dephosphorylation of inositol monophosphates, important for inositol signaling and targeted by lithium in bipolar disorder therapy[1][2][6]. However, the pseudogene itself has no protein product, no known enzymatic or receptor activity, is not a drug target, and is not implicated in disease or as a biomarker. Its presence is primarily of genomic or evolutionary interest rather than biomedical relevance for therapy or research.
