Inositol Phosphorylceramide Synthase (IPC synthase)

Target
IPC synthase
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Transferase
01

Overview

Inositol phosphorylceramide synthase (IPC synthase) is an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of inositol phosphorylceramide (IPC) from ceramide and phosphatidylinositol. It is essential for sphingolipid biosynthesis in fungi, plants, and some protozoa, but is absent from mammals, making it a promising target for antifungal drug development. Inhibitors of IPC synthase include aureobasidin A, rustmicin, galbonolide A, and khafrefungin.
