Inositol polyphosphate-4-phosphatase type I A (INPP4A) is an Mg²⁺-independent enzyme that catalyzes the removal of the phosphate group from the 4-position of the inositol ring in phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate and related substrates, antagonizing the PI3K-AKT/PKB signaling pathway. It plays an important modulatory role in cell cycle progression, cell survival, and neuronal functions, with disease relevance in neurodegeneration and cancer[1][2][3].
Hydrolysis of the 4-phosphate from phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate, counteracting PI3K signaling, thereby negatively regulating Akt (protein kinase B) activity[1][2]
